Volunteers Needed for the Raleigh Model Water Tower Competition

We are looking for volunteers to assist in the 9th annual Raleigh model water tower competition taking place on Saturday November 4th.

The objective of this competition is to make the students aware of the importance of reliable drinking water and the rewarding opportunities available in the water profession by having participants develop a functioning water tower adhering to specifications provided to them. Prizes are awarded to the top three individuals/teams in each division (elementary and middle school) based on four criteria: structural efficiency, hydraulic efficiency, cost efficiency, and design ingenuity.

 

We are looking for volunteers the day of the event to assist in the following stations:

  •  Registration – registering students, handing out t-shirts
  • Dimensions - checking the towers meet the given specifications
  • Materials - account for costs of all materials to help students understand the value of cost effective engineering
  • Hydraulics - measuring hydraulic efficiency
  • Subjective judging – determine overall ingenuity based on craftsmanship, imagination, and artistic merit
